2017 Festival Fundraiser Concert – Friday 22nd September, 7.30pm at St Matthews Church, Kiewa Street Albury

The Albury Chamber Music Festival committee is delighted to announce our final concert for our 2017 series!

Flinders Quartet (FQ) is instantly recognisable as one of Australia’s most loved chamber music ensembles. Comprising Shane Chen (violin), Nicholas Waters (violin), Helen Ireland (viola) and Zoe Knighton (cello), FQ are a quartet for the twenty-first century.  Flinders Quartet continues its second decade with acknowledged musical skill and maturity. Their dynamic and stirring performances of a full spectrum of repertoire have audiences and critics articulating their esteem, and the quartet is now a highly respected force in Australian chamber music.

Tickets on sale now at the following link – don’t miss out!

The Albury Chamber Music Festival is delighted to present the Flinders Quartet as their final pre-festival concert for 2017. Here is the wonderful program planned for this exciting concert event:

RICHARD MILLS  String Quartet No. 4 Glimpses from my book of Dada

(Commissioned in 2010 with assistance from the Australia Council and dedicated to Flinders Quartet on their tenth birthday)

FRANZ SCHUBERT  Winterreise (a selection) arranged for string quartet by Calvin Bowman

FRANZ SCHUBERT  String Quartet in D minor D.810 Death and the Maiden

Each of these works tells vivid, fantastical stories. From latte drinking airheads to a little girl having a conversation with Death, the myriad of colours produced by the string quartet are the perfect narrative tool. Calvin Bowman re-imagines Schubert’s seminal work, Winterreise, with these colours in mind, celebrating Schubert’s ongoing relevance and influence in 21st century Australia.

We invite anyone in the local area to attend what we are certain will be a very special launch for our exciting upcoming festival this November 17-19!
